Card type
Trainer
Items are free to spam. One Supporter and one Stadium per turn.
- What it does
- The helper cards. They are not Pokémon and they are not Energy. Almost every competitive list is half Trainers.
- When you play it
- On your turn, during the “do stuff” part, before you attack. Timing depends on the subtype: Item, Supporter, or Stadium.
- Beginner trap
- Playing two Supporters in one turn, or treating an Item like it has the one-per-turn cap.
Item cards have no cap. Draw, search, switch — play as many as you can legally play. If the card says “you may play this only if,” that is its own lock.
Supporter is once per turn. Professor’s Research, Iono, Boss’s Orders — these are the turn. Playing two is the most common illegal play at a kitchen table.
Stadium is one in play for the whole table. When you play a new Stadium with a different name, the old one is discarded. You cannot play a Stadium if the same Stadium is already up.
Tools are Items that attach to a Pokémon and stay. They still count as playing an Item. One Tool per Pokémon unless a card says otherwise.
